A murder-suicide investigation has been launched after a man died in a crash in Los Barrios, Spain, last week.

The unidentified 38-year-old British man died after his camper van collided head-on with a truck. First responders arrived at the scene after receiving reports of a head-on collision and found the man’s body in the vehicle wreckage. They also found the body of the man’s wife, Euro Weekly News reported.

The bodies were sent for autopsy, the results of which showed the woman had died from head injuries several days before the crash.

Meanwhile, preliminary investigation also revealed that the man was driving on the wrong side of the road before colliding with the truck. The authorities are now treating the incident as a possible murder-suicide as they believe the man deliberately crashed the van as he did not stop despite noticing other vehicles going in the opposite direction, local daily Europa Sur reported.

During investigation, the officers spoke to a few witnesses who said they saw the couple argue several days prior the crash. Investigators believe the man must have killed his wife following the argument. Reports also stated the man had mental problems and was on medication.

Meanwhile, the 43-year-old unidentified truck driver was seriously injured and remained in hospital. Investigation into the crash was ongoing.

The incident comes months after a man killed himself by intentionally driving his car into a truck in a commercial parking lot in Michigan. The unnamed man accelerated his vehicle to a "high rate of speed" and drove it straight into a parked truck. Deputies arrived at the scene and extricated the man from the car. He was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. While being transported to the hospital, the man told the deputies that he intentionally crashed his car into the truck to kill himself. The man died at the hospital. No one else was injured in the incident as the truck was unoccupied.
