British author E.L. James’ forthcoming book “Grey: Fifty Shades of Grey as Told by Christian,” will be available in bookstores and as a digital download on Thursday, June 18 -- just in time for Christian Grey's birthday. Those looking to get their hands on a copy of the love story from Christian Grey’s perspective can already pre-order online.

“Christian is a complex character,” James said in her blog on June 1. “Readers have always been fascinated by his desires and motivations, and his troubled past. Also, as anyone who has ever been in a relationship knows, there are two sides to every story. It’s been a great pleasure to return to my happy place – writing, being with Christian and Ana in their universe and working with the fantastic team at Vintage.”

This will be the 52-year-old’s fourth romance novel involving the love story of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. She penned the trilogy “Fifty Shades of Grey,” “Fifty Shades Darker” and “Fifty Shades Freed” beginning in 2009. Her novels have sold more than 70 million copies worldwide and she was named one of Time's most influential people in 2012.

James' first novel "Fifty Shades of Grey" was made into a feature film directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, and reached theaters on Feb. 14. Sequels "Fifty Shades Darker" and "Fifty Shades Freed" will reach theaters on Feb. 10, 2017 and Feb. 9, 2018.

An early copy of “Grey: Fifty Shades of Grey as Told by Christian” was stolen on June 8, and it was “feared thieves may be planning to release pirated versions of the novel, or sell extracts to media outlets,” according to the Daily Mail on June 9. Police officers from Kent, a county in southeast England, confirmed they were “investigating the theft of a finished copy of EL James's new book Grey. We will not be issuing any further statement.” A leaked copy of the book has yet to appear online.
