‘New Girl’ Season 6 Spoilers: Why Didn’t Nick, Jess Get Closure In The Finale?

“New Girl” Season 6 aired its finale episode on Tuesday night and disappointed some Nick (Jake Johnson) and Jess (Zooey Deschanel) fans.

In episode 22, Nick and Jess found their way back into each other’s arms and have vowed to stay with each other for better or for worse. However, the two characters did not have much screen time together. While speaking with TV Line, executive producers Brett Baer and Dave Finkel explained why they left fans hanging even though Season 7 hasn’t been confirmed yet.

“It was designed to be the culmination of two people who had been missing each other for so long. The whole season built to that moment. If you had any moment between them that went any deeper it would’ve been a disservice to the story and where Jess’ journey had taken her this season. From the first episode this season she started her intention that she wanted him back. So when he gets in the elevator and says, ‘I have to tell my best friend I’m in love with her,’ that’s the complete story,” Finkel said.

Meanwhile, Cece (Hannah Simone) and Schmidt (Max Greenfield) just found out that they are expecting their first child. Unfortunately, developments in this storyline won’t be explored until Season 7 gets greenlighted. The publication revealed that the fate of “New Girl” will be sealed next month. But if Season 7 will indeed be a go, Baer is excited to write Schmidt storylines that will portray him as a “helicopter daddy.”

“I’m hoping for a Season 7 for a lot of reasons, but that’s definitely one of them. We had such a blast watching the Bridezilla stuff and seeing him be a groom in Season 5. And the idea of seeing him as a Helicopter Daddy is hilarious,” he said.
