In a horrific incident, the decomposed body of a newborn baby has been found inside a plastic box that was abandoned in an alley. The child's umbilical cord was still intact.

The body was dumped behind a business premise in Jalan Kluang, Malaysia, police said Tuesday. They have not revealed the gender of the baby.

"Initial investigations found that the victim had been left at the location for more than 24 hours as the body had starting to decompose," said Ismail Dollah, Batu Pahat Officer in Charge of Police District, The Star reported.

Police checked CCTV footage in the area and found a person, believed to be a man, leaving the box in the area on April 27. The baby's body was sent to the Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital for an autopsy to determine the cause of death. It remains unclear if the man seen in the video was related to the baby.

Dollah said a case was filed under Section 318 of the Penal Code for concealing a birth by secretly disposing of the remains of a dead baby. If convicted, the man could face imprisonment for up to two years or fine, or both.

An investigation is underway to find the baby's parents. Local authorities have urged the public to come forward with any information related to the case.

Last year in China, a woman was caught on camera dumping her newborn baby in a trash can minutes after delivery. The CCTV footage showed the unidentified woman standing in front of a row of rubbish bins. She threw a bag into one of them before leaving the scene.

An elderly woman, who was passing by the bins, rescued the baby after hearing his cries. The baby was rushed to a hospital. A medical examination showed the newborn was healthy. Reports said the umbilical cord was still attached to the baby when he was abandoned.
