A newborn suffered serious wounds after she was bitten in the face by a rat while she was sleeping. The incident took place in Bogor, Indonesia, on Thursday.

According to local reports, Lisdawati went to the bathroom after ensuring that her daughter was fast asleep. However, she rushed back to the room upon hearing her baby crying and was shocked to see a "huge" rat on the bed, attacking the girl. The baby was bleeding profusely. Lisdawati managed to save the baby, identified as Aqilah Putri Rahmat, from the rat and rushed her to a nearby hospital.

The doctors informed the woman that her child had deep wounds all over the face, including on nose and cheeks and that they would have to administer stitches on her. The doctors also told that the wounds could leave scars on the face. The baby also got tetanus shots apart from the stitches.

Speaking to local media, Lisdawati said she was scared that something similar might happen again as there are a lot of rats in her home.

“Yes, there have always been rats here but I can’t believe that the rats would climb up on the bed and bite my baby. This is the first time I have seen this happening,” she said. Meanwhile, the baby was under medication to prevent infection.
