A Texas security guard, who was trying to save a man from being robbed at gunpoint outside a nightclub, accidentally ended up shooting the victim himself.

The incident took place Sunday at around 3 a.m. ET outside a nightclub at the intersection of North Freeway and West Road in Houston, according to KHOU-11.

The security guard, who was working his shift, saw two masked men with guns approach the victim in a parking lot. One of the suspects grabbed the victim, which led the security guard to open fire, but the bullets accidentally hit the victim twice.

"Unfortunately, when he discharged his weapon, he struck the (victim) in the back," Houston Police Department (HPD) Lieutenant Ignacio Izaguirre told ABC 13.

The injured man was sent to a hospital, and, in the meantime, the guard managed to nab one of the suspects involved in the incident after a brief foot chase. The other suspect had escaped in a car, before the police made it to the spot, the outlet reported.

The police are looking for the other suspect who fled the spot. The victim, who was shot in the back, was taken to an area hospital where he is expected to survive.

Neither the guard nor the victim was identified by the cops.

The gun used by the suspects was reportedly a stolen one. No additional information relating to the incident was disclosed by the HPD. It was also not clear if the security guard will face any charges in the incident.

The incident currently remains under investigation.

In February, an Oregon man, who was trying to fend off a bear from his property, mistakenly shot and killed his own brother and turned the gun on himself after realizing what he had done. The man himself called the cops to report he accidentally shot his brother and when deputies arrived, they found one man dead with a gunshot wound. Upon searching the rest of the property, they spotted the body of the first man, who they said died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The cops didn't reveal the identities of the brothers involved in the incident.
