In the wake of the weekend’s shooting sprees in El Paso and Dayton along with a stabbing spree in California, another stabbing has been occurred in Pennsylvania.

The stabbing occurred Thursday morning in Pittsburgh when two women were attacked by a man armed with a knife. One woman was killed from the attack while the other was rushed to the hospital to be treated for her wounds.

Before the attack began, a police officer went to check on one of the women because she appeared ill or sick in some manner. While the officer made sure the woman was okay, the unidentified attacker came up and fatally stabbed the woman in the neck. And despite the officer’s efforts to subdue the man, he was able to stab another woman who was passing by as the attack occurred.

The officer was eventually able to subdue the man and take him into custody for the attack. He tried to keep the first victim alive, keeping pressure on the neck wound while EMS rushed to the scene. And while both were rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment, the first woman died from her wound.

In the aftermath of the attack, the Pittsburgh Police Department’s violent crimes unit has begun investigating the stabbing. Victor Joseph, who heads the violent crimes unit, said that the second victim was in stable condition following the attack. He also described the attack is suspected to be a “random act of violence” and that neither victim knew each other.
