Parenthood
"Parenthood" fans might need to prepare for a major death in Season 6. NBC

If “Parenthood” makes you cry on a regular basis, expect nothing different in Season 6. The show might be killing off a beloved character in the final season.

At the Television Critics Association’s fall preview, showrunner Jason Katims spoke about the final season. "One of the things I wanted to do with the season was to find one larger story that influences everybody on the show," Katims told TV Guide. "It's a huge challenge for this family and a kind we haven't seen before. ... I feel like we're going to be telling a story this year that we haven't been able to."

One thing with which the family drama hasn’t really dealt with is death. The passing of a Braverman would be one of the few things that could affect the entire family. Very few storylines actually affect all 18 Bravermans. The events that bring them all together are weddings and births. While death is on the opposite end of that spectrum, Katims has said he wants to cover all aspects of life, which sparked theories about the death of a major character.

“And to me, 'Parenthood' is about, in a way, the cycle of life,” Katims told Buzzfeed. “You see these little kids become bigger kids and this season, you saw a shift in the patriarch going from Zeek to Adam [Peter Krause]. I think I would want the end to be about sort of that kind of change, that idea that something is passing and something is starting, something is beginning.”

When fans heard "cycle of life," speculation started about a potential character death.

Katims has not confirmed the rumors, but he said he wants the final story arc to be “one of those big life moments that the show tackles well,” he told TV Line. “When we did Kristina’s cancer storyline, I thought it was one of our strongest stories that we did -- and obviously some of the best performances -- so we want to do a story that again is one of those biggies that the family has to deal with.”

A death would definitely have an impact similar to Kristina’s cancer. However, no one wants to pick a Braverman to kill off … but that doesn’t mean we won’t guess. Check out our theories and speculation:

Zeek and/or Camille

The most likely candidates would be Zeek or Camille. Most kids have to experience a grandparent dying at some point. Katims mentioned above that Adam kind of took over Zeek's role as patriarch, so maybe the writers are preparing the characters for that loss. Grandparents dying wouldn’t be shocking, but it would be heartbreaking. All of the Bravermans really rely on Zeek and Camille.

Haddie

If "Parenthood" were to go the shocking route, Haddie could be the one in danger. Actress Sara Ramos has been appearing less and less. In Season 4, she was just recurring, but viewers still saw Haddie every few episodes. Yet she barely appeared on the show in Season 5 (her character went to college across the country). She showed up in the finale for a quick storyline about her character getting a girlfriend, and that was it.

Kristina

Kristina isn’t really considered cured until she is cancer free for at least five years. Her breast cancer could come back and kill her. As half of the most stable relationship among the Braverman siblings, her death would affect the entire family.

One Of The Four Siblings

The four adult siblings all seem pretty safe, but maybe Katims doesn't want viewers to see it coming. None of the four siblings has any health problems or reasons for concern. Julia, Adam, Sarah or Crosby could be killed, and it would change the lives of everyone on the show. It seems unlikely that “Parenthood” would go for such a shock value death, but the idea should still be considered.

If it is a death, it will likely happen early in the season. “Parenthood” has a reduced final season of 13 episodes.

“Parenthood” returns to NBC on Thursday, September 25 at 10 p.m. Who do you think will die? Comment with your theories.
