Two men in India sent nude photos to a 10-year-old girl, and also demanded her photos and videos by threatening to kill her parents.

The girl’s parents had given her a phone to attend online classes during the COVID pandemic. The victim created profiles on WhatsApp and Snapchat. She received a message from one of the accused, identified as 29-year-old Sunny Janiyani, on Snapchat. The two started messaging each other regularly and gradually became friends, local daily Mid-Day reported.

During one of their conversations, the man sent her his nude pictures and videos. He also shared her number and her Snapchat account details with a friend named Ajay Mhatre, who also sent her his nude photos and videos. The incident took place in the city of Mumbai.

"Janiyani then shared the victim’s phone number and her Snapchat account details to his friend Ajay Tukaram Mhatre (30) who also sent her his nude pictures and videos. The victim got traumatized but chose to stay quiet about the incident that she was getting such photos and videos from unknown numbers," a police officer told The Indian Express.

The accused then asked her to send her nude photos and videos, and when she refused, they threatened to kill her parents if she did not comply. Following this, the girl informed her parents about it, who in turn filed a police complaint.

As part of the investigation, the police scrutinized the call data of the phone numbers from which the girl was receiving the messages, following which they took the two accused into custody. They face several charges, including sexual harassment, stalking, criminal intimidation and voyeurism.

"They had a unique modus operandi. They tried to befriend the girl and win her trust, before demanding the photos. We are now investigating what they planned to do with the nude photos," a police officer told Mid-Day.

The accused will be produced in court Tuesday. The police were investigating to see if there were other victims.

Meanwhile, urging parents to be aware of what their children are doing, a police officer told local daily The Times of India, "Parents should check children’s online apps and games and report to police immediately in case of a problem."
