The Polar Vortex is taking the the U.S. by storm — literally. The Weather Channel reported some states may see the coldest temperatures they’ve experienced in several years as December winds down. Wind chill temperatures may reach 45 degrees below zero by Friday night in some northern Plains states and the Upper Midwest. However, surviving the brutal cold this weekend doesn’t have to be a bitter experience, especially if there’s booze involved. Here are a few boozy hot chocolate recipes that are perfect for more than just bringing holiday cheer — tasty drinks are great for keeping the blood warm too!

Brace the cold weather with the top five boozy hot chocolate recipes below:

Kahlua Hot Chocolate: In a saucepan, combine two cups of milk, two tablespoons of sugar, 1 1/2 tablespoons of Dutch-processed unsweetened cocoa powder, 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon and a pinch of nutmeg over medium heat for about 2-3 minutes. After the mixture is heated through, remove drink from heat and stir in one ounce of Kahlúa coffee liqueur. Garnish with mini marshmallows, salted caramel and chocolate if desired and serve immediately.

Baileys Irish Cream Hot Chocolate: Heat three cups of milk in a small saucepan while slowly stirring in about two to three cups of chopped chocolate or chocolate chips. Once completely mixed and heated through, remove from heat and stir in about 3 tablespoons of Original Bailey Irish Cream. Garnish with whipped cream and chocolate shavings, and serve immediately.

Amaretto Hot Chocolate: In a medium-sized saucepan, heat three cups of milk, 2/3 cups of semi-sweet chocolate chips, 1/4 cup of sugar and a pinch of salt. Mix together until chocolate melts completely and the mixture comes to a simmer. Once the mixture starts to simmer, remove from heat and add a 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla and 3 ounces of Amaretto liqueur. Stir and serve immediately.

Red Wine Hot Chocolate: Over medium heat, combine 1 1/2 cups of milk and 1/3 cup of dark chocolate chunks in a saucepan. Whisk continuously until chocolate is completely melted then pour in one cup of red wine (cabernet sauvignon recommended). Let the mixture simmer until liquid is heated through and serve immediately.

Spiked Nutella Hot Chocolate: Bring 1 1/2 cups of milk to a simmer in a saucepan over medium heat, and then add in 1/3 cup of Nutella. Stir the mixture until Nutella is completely melted, and then add in one cinnamon stick. Bring mixture to a simmer. Divide four ounces of bourbon, Frangelico, cacao rum or chocolate liqueur into two mugs and ladle the hot milk mixture into the mugs. Add whipped cream or marshmallows if desired and serve immediately.
