Exactly a month after President Donald Trump was sworn in as the 45th president of the United States, the country celebrates Presidents Day on Monday to commemorate all the great leaders of the nation.

The event was originally celebrated on Feb. 22, coinciding with the birthday of the country’s first president, George Washington. In 1971, Presidents Day became a popular holiday due to the passing of the Uniform Monday Holiday Act, which gave workers more long weekends, according to the History Channel.

Presidents Day is now celebrated on the third Monday of February, combining the birthdays of both Washington and former President Abraham Lincoln, which are just a few days apart. While holiday sales are always a great incentive, the observance also gives citizens a great opportunity to showcase their patriotism.
