Prince Charles was cruel to Princess Diana.

The Prince and the late Princess of Wales had a fairy tale wedding. However, their marriage wasn’t as great as it was filled with infidelities. In addition, the future king was reportedly not always kind to the People’s Princess.

“Charles wasn’t always kind to the princess, in fact sometimes he was quite cruel,” Paul Burrell said in the 2017 documentary “The Diana Story.”

According to the former royal butler, one time Princess Diana wore a beautiful black-and-white Catherine Walker gown. She told her husband that she made it especially for him and asked the Prince of Wales if he liked it. Unfortunately, his remarks broke her heart.

“You look like you belong to the Mafia,” Prince Charles answered Princess Diana. Burrell said that the future king’s response "cut her down to her knees."

In another occasion, Princess Diana came down in a tartan dress and asked Prince Charles if he liked it. Apparently, the heir didn’t and even compared his wife to a British-Caledonian stewardess.

Burrell said that Prince Charles knew when and how to target Princess Diana. Prince Charles’ cruelty began before their engagement and Burrell felt that it was intended so Princess Diana would lose her confidence.

Burrell stressed that he never saw any physical violence from Prince Charles. However, he noted that he was mentally cruel to the late royal.

When the People’s Princess became even more popular than the Prince of Wales, it angered Prince Charles. In fact, he wanted to put Princess Diana in place.

As for their failed marriage, author Sarah Bradford felt that their small home in Kensington Palace contributed to their rocky relationship. Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s abode was reportedly too small that it caused certain tensions in their relationship.

Princess Diana was also disappointed with their union. The princess told Burrell that she found her prince on her wedding day, but it was not a happy ending. Years after marrying Prince Charles, Princess Diana compared her love story to someone who kissed a frog and found a toad.
