Prince Philip did a bizarre thing to woo Queen Elizabeth II.

The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh have been married for over 70 years already. According to a 2007 report, Prince Philip actually did something surprising and bizarre to get the attention of the then princess when they were just friends.

According to James Whitaker, Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth II sealed their friendship over ginger biscuits and lemonade. Then, Prince Philip “demonstrated his athleticism by jumping over the nets of the college tennis courts.”

Royal correspondent Ingrid Seward added that Queen Elizabeth II was particularly drawn into Prince Philip’s strength and confidence. She liked the fact that he is “very alpha male.”

“Prince Philip was very alpha male. Quite controlling, but very positive,” Seward said.

“I don’t think Princess Elizabeth ever met a man like that in her life.”

Seward added that the Queen was used to meeting people who were very deferential to her. Having someone like Prince Philip was a breath of fresh air for her.

“Suddenly someone comes along and tells her what to do, and drives too fast and does all these sort of things. I think he was just so male and she was so incredibly in love with him,” the royal expert added.

Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth II’s relationship have stood the test of time. At present, they no longer live together, but their relationship remains intact.

The Duke of Edinburgh usually spends his time between Wood Farm on the Sandringham Estate and Windsor Castle. He loves to be in Norfolk than Berkshire because he finds it more relaxing. Queen Elizabeth II allows her husband to be away from the public’s prying eye because he earned a “proper retirement.” She knows that he would feel obliged to get involved in their engagements if he remains at Buckingham Palace.
