  • Prince William and Kate Middleton brought their children George and Charlotte to a service of thanksgiving honoring Prince Philip
  • Princess Charlotte was captured flinching, looking over to her left and making an "eek"-like facial expression
  • Royal fans called Princess Charlotte "adorable" and praised her and Prince George's behavior during the mass

Princess Charlotte was caught on camera making a funny face during her late great-grandfather Prince Philip's memorial service Tuesday.

The 6-year-old attended the service of thanksgiving held in honor of the late Duke of Edinburgh, who died in April 2021 at age 99, at Westminster Abbey in London with her parents, Prince William and Kate Middleton, and older brother Prince George, 8. The couple's youngest child, Prince Louis, was not in attendance.

During the service, Princess Charlotte was captured flinching, looking over to her left and making an "eek"-like facial expression while sitting beside Prince George.

The moment was seen by viewers who streamed the service live. It is unclear what she was looking at before she made the expression, but royal fans and social media users all found it adorable.

"I think she had the hiccups and was a bit embarrassed, she knew the cameras would notice. So funny," one Twitter user suggested. Another person speculated that the little royal made the cheeky face because she saw herself on TV.

"Princess Charlotte is the cutest thing," a third user wrote.

Some claimed that Princess Charlotte's mother Duchess Kate and grandmother Carole Middleton have been spotted making the same facial expression.

"Her mom makes the same facial expression," one person tweeted. Another said, "I think I've seen Carole do it as well. It's so cute."

Many also praised Prince George's and Princess Charlotte's behavior during the mass.

"George and Charlotte behaved impeccably," one Twitter user wrote. "She was sooooooo well behaved today; what a credit to her parents," another royal fan said of the 6-year-old princess.

On Tuesday, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge took their children with them to meet with clergy members, including the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, when the family arrived at Westminster Abbey for the service, Us Weekly reported.

Princess Charlotte was all smiles as she greeted Welby, who bent down to her eye level to speak with her before taking his place in the church. The young princess was later seen holding her mom's hand as the family exited the memorial.

Prince William also linked hands with his son as they left the service. The father-son duo wore matching navy suits.

In addition to the Cambridges, Prince Philip's wife of more than 70 years, Queen Elizabeth II, and their children, Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward, were also all there to celebrate the late royal's life.

Meanwhile, this wasn't the first time Princess Charlotte has caught the public's attention due to her facial expressions.

In 2019, Prince William and Middleton brought their two eldest children to the King's Cup Regatta. At one point, the then-4-year-old princess had some fun with photographers and well-wishers and decided to stick her tongue out at them, much to the shock of her mother and the delight of the crowd.

Royal fans apparently also loved it as one social media user wrote at the time: "I prefer a 'cheeky tongue' over a 'stiff salute.'"
