Princess Diana reportedly might have been able to prevent her divorce from Prince Charles if she didn’t ask one controversial question when she was still alive.

On the online forum site Quora, one royal fan said that Camilla wasn’t the main reason why the Prince and Princess of Wales divorced. Regardless if Camilla is in the picture or not, the future King might have considered staying married to the late royal if she didn’t step on his ego.

During a previous interview with royal biographer Martin Bashir for Panorama, the mom of two questioned her ex-husband’s ability to rule as King. Royal fan Deanna Eppers said that this must have triggered Prince Charles.

“Had Diana not questioned Charles’ ability to rule as a future King, no divorce would have occurred and both Diana and Charles would have pursued their love interests. That would mean, Prince Charles would have done what the kings of centuries ago once did; Charles would have had an ongoing affair with Camilla Parker-Bowles… And Diana could have pursued her relationship with Hasnat Khan… Neither Charles or Diana could have married their love interests, but they could have had affairs,” she said.

Eppers went on to say that the set up would have also been beneficial to Prince William and Prince Harry. This way, their parents would stay married to each other, and they will continue to have a complete royal family. However, this also means that Prince Charles and Princess Diana would be married to each other for other reasons and not love.

And according to royal author Sally Bedell Smith, Prince Charles and Princess Diana were very different from each other, and their marriage wouldn’t have survived because of this.

In the book “Prince Charles: The Passions and Paradoxes of an Improbable Life,” Smith said that Prince Charles also knew that his marriage to Princess Diana was doomed from the start.

“Pressured and panicked, he had rushed into a decision before he was ready, understanding little about the rosy-cheeked girl of nineteen who gave him beguiling sidelong glances. At age thirty-two, he should have known better,” she said.
