Ever since Fox announced that it is bringing back its popular series “Prison Break” for a revival in 2016, fans everywhere were wondering how in the world the show would carry on after killing off its principal star in its 2009 finale. Now, thanks to the first teaser trailer for the coming Season 5 run, fans have a bit more information about the twist that will bring the character back.

The series ended with a made-for-TV movie in which Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) sacrifices his life so that his brother Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell) and girlfriend Sara Tancredi (Sarah Wayne Callies) can escape and go free. The character was willing to make the big move because he knew that an illness would eventually kill him anyway. However, with the show returning after nearly seven years, the big question on everyone’s mind, for both fans and characters alike, is how Scofield lived to fight another day?

The trailer, posted below, opens with Scofield’s son asking Tancredi about his father. She likens him to a storm, drifting in and out of existence, and the boy notes that storms can always come back. While it’s not exactly a meteorological statement, it sets the stage for the character’s return. Sadly, the teaser doesn’t explain how Scofield survived both his disease and sacrifice, but it does make it clear that the quest for those answers will be what consumes the plot of “Prison Break” Season 5.

When Burrows gets a tip that his brother may still be alive, he packs a bag and makes his way to the Middle East, where he finds Scofield in a very familiar environment, a prison. From there, it’s a bunch of cuts of both brothers launching violent capers that will ultimately come together in another prison escape.

According to CinemaBlend, the show was not on Fox’s fall lineup, meaning it probably will be held until midseason, just like its most recent “X-Files” revival. As previously reported, the fact that a new season of the show was possible is enough of a feat. Both Miller and Purcell are currently main cast members on the CW’s science fiction adventure series “Legends of Tomorrow,” where they play Captain Cold and Heatwave respectively. Fortunately, both networks were able to work out a deal for the actors to transition to filming each shows seamlessly, but apparently it wasn’t possible to get them back in time for a fall premiere.
