KEY POINTS

  • Downey's Instagram is now dedicated to his organization, "Footprint Coalition"
  • The "Iron Man" star is still following his Marvel co-stars on Twitter
  • His last MCU appearance was in the 2019 film "Avengers: Endgame"

Robert Downey, Jr. sent fans into a frenzy after unfollowing Chris Evans, Tom Holland and his other Marvel co-stars on Instagram. He unfollowed them just days before Scarlett Johansson’s first MCU standalone movie, “Black Widow,” hits theaters on July 9.

While the unfollowing went widely unnoticed by Marvel fans over the weekend, more and more “Iron Man” fans are now taking to social media to express their shock over Downey’s latest move. “I wasn’t ready for RDJ to unfollow the whole Marvel cast, it’s like the end of an era,” wrote one Marvel fan on Twitter.

Some fans also demanded an “Avengers” cast reunion following the recent social media ruckus while asking Downey to follow his Marvel co-stars again. “Follow Marvel’s cast on Instagram again now,” one Twitter user tweeted.

Some fans, however, noticed that it was not only his Marvel co-stars he had unfollowed. In fact, none of his current followers are actors. Amid the public meltdown over his recent Instagram snub, some fans noted that Downey still follows his MCU co-stars on Twitter, suggesting that there is no bad blood among them.

Following the snub, Downey changed his Instagram bio into what now seems to be his new business page. In his bio, the “Iron Man” star urges his fans to get involved with Footprint Coalition, the organization of environmental investors that he founded himself.

In June 2019, Downey announced the launch of Footprint Coalition during his opening keynote for Amazon’s re; Mars conference in Las Vegas. “Between robotics and nanotechnology, we could clean up the planet significantly, if not totally, in 10 years,” he said. “God I love experts. They’re like Wikipedia with character defects,” he joked.

It remains unknown what trick Downey has up his sleeve, but most of his fans are positive that it’s nothing serious since he still follows his co-stars on Twitter.

Downey was last seen in the MCU when he reprised his role as Iron Man in the “Avengers: Endgame” movie in 2019.
