“Roswell, New Mexico” Season 1 delved into the end of senior year in episode 6, which also happened to be the beginning of Alex and Michael’s relationship. Executive producer Carina MacKenzie teased that it won’t be the last time we see Malex’s past on the CW drama.

“I think fans should know that what you see in this episode is the beginning of them,” the showrunner teased to Entertainment Weekly.

In the episode, which was largely set in 2008, fans saw Michael (Michael Vlamis) and Alex (Tyler Blackburn) start their relationship. Alex gave a homeless Michael a warm place to stay, and they eventually started to bond. Unfortunately, one of their romantic encounters ended with Master Sergeant Manes (Trevor St. John) breaking Michael’s hand. However, that wasn’t the last time the two saw each other before the reunion in the pilot episode.

“It wasn’t like that happened and they never saw each other again until 10 years later,” MacKenzie told EW. “There’s still a little bit left of Alex and Michael to tell in the past and over the course of those tens years — what happened the various times Alex would return back to Roswell. There’s a lot of story to tell moving forward and I look forward to doing it for seasons to come.”

It sounds like the two have a lot to explore in their past, but it seems they also have a future together. MacKenzie made it clear that the Michael and Alex storyline is not a short-lived one.

“I think what’s really important for fans to realize is, they have a long way to go and those men have so much work to do on themselves before they can be any better for each other,” she said. “We go lots of episodes without them being in the same scene. They’re constantly thinking about each other and they’re constantly working on becoming better men for themselves, but also for each other and I really love that story. I think it’s a very grownup love story and I’m very proud of it.”

However, Michael and Alex fans should keep in mind that it won’t be smooth sailing for these two. MacKenzie has made it clear that Micahel is bisexual, and he might be with women on the show as well. Fans of the original “Roswell” will remember that Michael had a major love story with Maria.

“There’s no saying that Michael and Maria won’t be together,” MacKenzie told KSite TV. “Michael is bisexual. I would like to make sure that everybody knows Michael is bisexual, because I don’t want people to be baited if things might not be smooth sailing for him and Alex and he experiments with women. Alex is gay, Michael’s bisexual, and yeah. Michael and Maria interact in Episode 4 and a little more going forward.”

Fans will have to keep tuning in to see all the Malex drama. “Roswell, New Mexico” airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. EST on The CW.
