Harris, Grace and Darius must prove that Bennett was the man behind the assassination attempt on President Mackenzie in order to regain control of the gravity tractor in the Season 1 finale of “Salvation.”

According to the synopsis for Season 1, episode 13 of the CBS series, Harris (Ian Anthony Dale), Grace (Jennifer Finnigan) and Darius (Santiago Cabrera) try to topple Bennett’s (Sasha Roiz) illegitimate government once and for all.

In Season 1, episode 12, Dr. Michele Rasmussen (Tara Nicodemo) revealed during a press conference that President Mackenzie (Tovah Feldshuh) died of hemorrhagic stroke. Harris, however, was not convinced that the president’s death was due to natural causes. So with the help of Darius, Grace and her father, Hugh Keating (Mark Moses), Harris secretly had the president’s grave dug up to confirm the cause of her death.

But much to his surprise, Harris found out that there was no body in the president’s casket. The secretary of defense later discovered that the president is still alive. Grant (Dean Armstrong), the president’s head of detail, brought Harris to a nuclear fallout shelter where the president is being treated.

There, Dr. Rasmussen apologized to Harris and told him that the president’s stroke was induced by mercury. “Someone added it to her asthma inhaler. The more she used it, the more she needed it,” the physician shared, before the president told Harris herself that the mercury was the cause of her memory lapses.

Although Dr. Rasmussen told Harris that they’re still administering chelation therapy on the president to remove the toxins from her blood stream, Harris told Grant that they need to tell the world that the president is alive to depose Bennett’s illegitimate regime.

But Grant didn’t think it’s a good idea. “If she was well enough to address the nation, Bennett and his people will do anything to stop her. They’re not just gonna walk away from this,” Grant explained, before telling Harris the best thing to do. “You have to find out who did this then prove it.”

As seen in the past couple of episodes, Harris has been suspecting that Bennett’s chief of staff, Claire (Erica Luttrell), is part of the coup to overthrow the president. But could Harris prove his speculation before Claire makes another deadly move?

In the trailer for the episode, Claire appears to be aiming her gun at Grace. Will Claire pull the trigger on Harris’ ex?

Elsewhere in the season-ender, Darius makes final plans for the ark. Will he finally find out that he didn’t pass the genetic testing and the psych profile analysis required to board Salvation?

“Salvation” Season 1, episode 13, titled “The Plot Against America,” airs on Wednesday, Sept. 20 at 10 p.m. EDT on CBS.
