It only took a matter of moments after White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer refused to rule out the possibility that Sarah Palin could become the next ambassador to Canada Wednesday for Twitter users north of the border to start inundating the social media site with negative opinions about the former Alaska governor. “Sarah Palin as ambassador?” New Democrat member of Parliament Charlie Angus asked on Twitter to express his concern about Palin’s apparent cluelessness about foreign affairs. “Well that would show how little Steve Bannon and his pal @realDonaldTrump think of Canada.”

Another New Democratic Party member of Parliament, Nathan Cullen, told the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation it was going to be hard for him to take Palin seriously because she wouldn’t know the truth “if it jumped up and knocked her on the head.” Cullen said Palin was just “another Donald Trump.”

Palin was one of the first high-profile Republicans to endorse President Donald Trump in his election campaign when the onetime billionaire real estate mogul was in a fight with Texas Sen. Ted Cruz to win the first caucus in Iowa. After Trump’s presidential victory, Palin reportedly spoke with him about becoming the veterans’ affairs secretary but was never chosen for the cabinet position.

The position of ambassador to Canada has been unoccupied since President Barack Obama’s ambassador Bruce Heyman resigned before Trump took office. The White House’ lack of denial about Palin potentially being chosen has caused many Canadians to joke whether Palin’s history of being an Alaska resident made her particularly qualified for the position. And it doesn't seem like anyone has forgotten about Palin's geographical faux pas when she said Russia can be seen from Alaska to tout her global experience during the 2008 presidential campaign when she was the vice president nominee on Sen. John McCain's ticket.

“This is entirely because Sarah Palin can see Canada from Alaska, isn’t it?”one read, while another tweeted: “Just cus @SarahPalinUSA ‘probably’ knows the difference between a moose & a beaver shouldn’t make her a Canadian ambassador option.”
