Only one more Thursday remains until “Scandal” fans can once again start tweeting about #TGIT (Thank God It’s Thursday). Season 5 returns to ABC Thursday, Sept. 24, and viewers certainly won’t want to miss it.

To help prepare for the upcoming episodes, the network released the synopsis for the Season 5 premiere, titled “Heavy is the Head,” along with promo photos. Spoiler alert! It doesn’t look like Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) and Mellie (Bellamy Young) are going to be on better terms anytime soon.

According to the synopsis, Olivia (Kerry Washington) and Fitz are going to be back in “scandal” mode after rekindling their romance. Although Fitz told Mellie last season that he wants a divorce, it appears that Olivia and Fitz will be stuck keeping their relationship on the down-low for now. But despite the secret, the two seem happy keeping things just between them (and the sheets).

Meanwhile, three major characters will be on the outs -- Cyrus (Jeff Perry), Huck (Guillermo Diaz) and Mellie -- after their involvement with Rowan (Joe Morton). “Scandal” viewers will remember that Fitz vowed to prevent Mellie from ever getting elected president after finding out that she was responsible for getting the B613 jury killed. He also fired Cyrus after discovering that he knew about it as well. Quinn (Katie Lowes) was the one who put two and two together that it was Huck who actually carried out the jury assassination, but fans have yet to see the consequences of that.

Of course, that won’t be the only drama to go down in the Season 5 premiere. The Queen of Caldonia will be visiting the White House; however, the pleasant trip with her family “turns into a tragedy.” The episode 1 description teases that it will be up to Olivia to make sure that the “Royal family’s private life stays private.”

“Scandal” Season 5, episode 1, will premiere on ABC Thursday, Sept. 24, at 9 p.m. ET. Check out the promo photos from “Heavy is the Head” below:
