Fiona Gallagher doesn’t hold down jobs for very long on “Shameless.” She manages to be dependable for a while; but somehow, she always messes up even the best of situations. So presumably, she’ll be ditching her Patsy’s Pies job after being left at the altar… unless a new character convinces her not to.

Former “Quantico” star Tate Ellington will guest star on Season 7 of the Showtime drama. It seems Patsy’s Pies is owned by a company that wants Fiona (Emmy Rossum) to stick around. Ellington’s character Chad will try to convince the oldest Gallagher sibling to stay on the staff as manager, TVLine reports.

Ellington started filming for the role Tuesday. The actor was most recently on ABC’s “Quantico,” where his character Simon sacrificed himself to save everyone from a nuclear bomb. This role will hopefully be a little less deadly.

It’s hard to see how Fiona will be able to stick with her job, though. Her boss is Sean (Dermot Mulroney), her former fiancé, who was revealed to still be using drugs right before she was supposed to walk down the aisle in the Season 6 finale. Sean left Fiona at the church in tears, leaving to go convince his ex-wife to continue sharing custody of their son.

Executive producer Nancy Pimental noted that Fiona will try to remain on the straight and narrow, but finding a legitimate job that helps her get out of poverty is difficult. “We’re talking about a future where Fiona will have more responsibility but gets her wages garnished because she hasn’t paid taxes,” Pimental told the Hollywood Reporter in April. “She’s worked hard to be on the up and up, and it becomes a question of: Is it worth it? How do they get out of their circumstances?”

Staying at Patsy’s Pies might be the best way to do that, and it’ll be a lot easier if Sean isn’t around. Mulroney has been in NBC’s new pilot “Bunker Hill,” which could lead to his “Shameless” character leaving.

In any case, it seems unlikely that Ellington’s character will replace Sean. Rossum has been vocal about wanting Fiona to remain single for a while after her most recent breakup. “I keep saying to our producers, ‘Why is she never single?’” the actress told TVLine in March. “I say every single season, ‘Why do we keep putting her with these guys? Can’t we have four episodes where she’s single?’ Women are single! They don’t just bridge from one guy to another. Some girls do, and Fiona does, but I would love to see her struggle with nobody.”

“Shameless” Season 7 premieres Sunday, Oct. 2, at 9 p.m. EDT on Showtime.
