“Shameless” Season 7 Spoilers
Fiona (Emmy Rossum) and Sean’s (Dermot Mulroney) twisted love story may continue in Season 7 of “Shameless.” Showtime

What was supposed to be the happiest day of Fiona’s (Emmy Rossum) life turned into a complete nightmare when Frank (William H. Macy) crashed his eldest daughter’s wedding in the Season 6 finale of “Shameless.” During the Showtime installment, titled “Familia Supra Gallegorious Omnia,” the uninvited guest opted against a present from Fiona's registry list and instead brought the gift of gab, revealing a dark secret about Fiona’s betrothed.

“Your husband-to-be is a junkie, through and through,” Frank bluntly said in episode 12. “I’m surprised we’re not better friends, Sean — we have so much in common.”

Sean (Dermot Mulroney) confirmed Frank’s accusation, admitting that he had in fact been using. He even confessed to getting high before exchanging vows, hoping to take “the edge off.” Although Sean revealed he wanted to make things right with Fiona, he explained that he had a bigger issue on his plate — like potentially losing custody of his son due to his drug use. So, Sean took off in the finale — leaving Fiona in the dust — to convince the mother of his child to continue sharing custody.

Does this mean Fiona’s relationship with Sean is over? And if so, can fans expect to see the serial dater explore life as a single woman in Season 7 of “Shameless”? Well, during an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Jeremy Allen White dished that although his TV sibling never made it down the aisle, he still thinks it’s possible that Fiona and Sean may end up getting married.

“I think there’s something there with Sean and Fiona,” the actor said, recounting a moment between the two in episode 9 that he thinks sealed their fate. “When she yelled that at him during their fight [in ‘A Yurt of One’s Own’], I think something clicked in Sean’s head where he was like, ‘I want to marry that woman.’ I don’t know if there’s a part of me that’s, like, rooting for them even though he’s been doing heroin this whole time, but I don’t know. I really don’t know.”

Although White is cheering for Fiona and Sean, he explained that he thinks it’ll be beneficial for Fiona to explore life as a single gal in Season 7 — at least for a little while. And he’s not the only one who wants to see Fiona play the field! Executive producer Nancy Pimental revealed to the Hollywood Reporter that Fiona will attempt to find herself in Season 7.

“You get away with a lot of stuff in your early 20s where you can be a party girl and bounce from guy to guy and have every opportunity you want but getting into your late 20s it becomes not so cute anymore,” she said. “How many times do you have to learn your lesson? It's a crossroads: Who are you going to be? Debs (Emma Kenney) has a baby; Lip has choices — so what is your identity?”

“Shameless” was renewed for a seventh season in January.
