Much about their plans surrounding the birth of their first child together has been criticized, but the choices Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could make for themselves when it comes to their child’s future could actually be the most shocking.

While appearing on Yahoo UK’s The Royal Box, royal correspondent Robert Jobson revealed that while the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s child could still be given a princely title even though it isn’t in direct line for the throne, but that the parents may instead opt to reject all titles and instead choose to forego royal life as a whole, allowing their child to grow up and choose their own career path and plans for the future when it gets older.

“The child is not going to be the king or queen, very doubtful. They may not even have a royal role going forward. I know they are looking at the titles now—they may decide not to have a princely title,” he said. “Meghan and Harry in ten years time, when the focus will be on the Cambridge children and the Cambridges, may decide they want to settle in the West Coast and not be part of all this.”

Jobson also stated that this isn’t the first time Prince Harry has actually considered leaving royal life behind at all, stating that when the Prince served in the military, he was looking at pursuing other career paths because of the freedom they afforded him.

“He found a degree of freedom when he was in the military but the truth of it is, he was looking for things he'd rather be doing,” he said. “...I personally think he’s a free spirit, Harry, and I’m sure that’s probably what he wants for his children.”

It’s been reported in the past that Prince Harry has considered abandoning his royal life, but his love for his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth has convinced him not to give it up before.

This isn’t the first time it’s been reported that the royal couple has considered leaving royal life behind either. In fact, the couple has been encouraged to do so because the monarchy is considered too old-fashioned by some.

“The simple solution is to abolish an absurd and anachronistic system,” royal historian Kate Maltby wrote at the time. “If Meghan and Garry want to be truly radical, perhaps they should walk away completely. They could have no greater influence on royal life than by denouncing it.”
