Florida deputies who arrived at a residence after the homeowner reported hearing a "scratching and hissing" sound at her backdoor made a chilling discovery—they found an alligator lounging on the concrete pathway in her backyard.

The homeowner called the police on Thursday and complained of "suspicious activity" going on in her backyard. A video shared on Facebook by the Osceola County Sheriff’s department showed the gator flailing in an attempt to break away as authorities scramble to capture it.

Lopez said authorities managed to capture the alligator and it was safely released into a lake.

"There was noise at the backdoor," Sheriff Marcos Lopez said in the Facebook post. " Hissing, scratching like someone was trying to gain entry into her house," he said.

Lopez said authorities managed to capture the alligator and it was safely released into a lake. "He was apprehended, taken into custody, and safely released into another side of the lake," Lopez said in the post. Sheriff Lopez said the alligator "fought" and "tried to run" while authorities worked to wrangle it in.

Alligators mostly remain close to their habitats throughout the year but tend to venture into the urban-dwelling in search of a partner or food during their mating season which lasts from April to June. Reports pour in about people spotting the reptiles underneath their cars, in the parking lots of the shopping centers, or in the vicinity of the neighborhood ponds. In the Facebook post, Lopez urged residents to keep small children and pets away from the edges of lakes during the period.

It was only last week that a 6-foot-long alligator chased panicked customers at a parking lot of a Wendy's restaurant in Florida. The Lee County Sheriff's Office said deputies arrived with Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) personnel at the restaurant and safely captured the gator. No one was hurt in the incident.
