Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are being urged to step away from the spotlight so that the focus could once again be on Prince William and Kate Middleton.

But on the online forum site Quora, royal fans came to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s defense by saying that they have actually stepped away from the spotlight a long time ago.

Kathleen Grace, an artist and art photographer, said that Prince Harry and Markle have not tried to steal the spotlight away from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. It just so happens that the media has been focusing all of their attention on them.

“Here’s the difference though. Prince William is the reliable, committed, hard-working royal, second in line to the throne… He is conservative in his manner and demeanor, a thinking and clear-headed man,” she said.

Kimberly Klaus, a development coach, recounted someone else’s comment about the Cambridges needing to earn their space in the spotlight. She said that by necessity, Prince William and Middleton would have to take the spotlight from the other members of the royal family because of his upcoming position as King.

“He and Catherine are trying to make their family a priority as much as they can for now but they cannot take a step back as much as they would like to. They would be happy to allow the Sussexes to take the spotlight all the time, but I’m certain they resent the constant violation of Harry and Meghan’s privacy as much as their own,” she said.

Cathy Buchanan, a lifelong watcher of British culture and history, said that Markle and Prince Harry have long stepped back from the spotlight. In fact, they moved to a more private home to lead very private lives with their son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

But Julia McConnell, an editor at Metropolitan Nashville Schools, said that Markle and Prince Harry shouldn’t step away from the spotlight in favor of Prince William and Middleton because the Cambridges still need to earn the respect of the public.
