In a development that may leave some “Star Wars” fans fuming, the planned “Star Wars” trilogy with Rian Johnson at the helm is going to happen, despite the backlash the director faced previously. Multiple sources have confirmed that the planned movies are still going to bw filmed with no change of director as of this writing.

Johnson is the director of “The Last Jedi,” the sequel in the new trilogy that has been criticized by some of the fans for the creative choices the director made. Johnson was supposed to head a new “Star Wars” trilogy film, but a recent rumor suggested that those films will not be given the green light. New reports confirmed that there are no changes yet, and the trilogy will go ahead as planned.

According to Making Star Wars, several sources have confirmed that there is no change when it comes to Johnson directing the films. The sources also said that an announcement about the timeline of all the upcoming movies may be made in April at the Star Wars Celebration event.

The report noted that if Disney and Lucasfilm were planning to make any changes, there would have been an announcement about it by now. However, the company executives appear to be happy with the outcome they have gotten so far, and that means they will not be making any changes.

The first “Star Wars” trilogy that will happen is expected to be helmed by “Game of Thrones” producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. Johnson’s trilogy is expected to come later. The rumors, however, may continue in the coming years.

A rumor on Reddit by the person who previously leaked the first set of concept art pictures of “Star Wars: Episode 9” also confirmed that there is no change when it comes to Johnson’s films. If there is a change, there will be an announcement from Lucasfilm or Johnson himself.

Johnson has also confirmed on Twitter that the rumor about him is wrong. He added that he is going to work on the new “Star Wars” trilogy.
