Last night’s Season 6 finale of “Suits” ended with Mike (Patrick J. Adams) becoming a real lawyer. While that milestone basically pulled the show out of its original premise of Mike being a fraud, series creator Aaron Korsh said they still have a lot of stories left to tell in Season 7 of the USA Network legal drama.

Korsh said that Season 7 will explore Mike’s journey as a full-fledged lawyer. Korsh told TVLine that the fact that Mike is no longer a fraud relieves him of the burden of feeling that he’s always going to be caught. “It’s going to allow him to step out of the shadows and maybe behave with a little more confidence,” said Korsh. “It allows [him] now to just worry about what it’s like to be a lawyer in the shark-infested world of New York corporate law.”

At some point next season, Mike is going to share that journey with his fiancée Rachel (Meghan Markle), who will soon become a full-fledged lawyer, too.

Season 7 will also find Mike working side by side with Harvey (Gabriel Macht) just like the old times. At the end of the Season 6 finale, Mike agreed to return to the firm with the condition that he will be allowed to continue working on cases with Nathan’s (Peter Cambor) legal clinic. While that deal seems to be a win-win situation for both Mike and Harvey, Korsh teased that the said agreement will potentially cause some conflict between the dynamic duo.

“The other thing moving forward is Harvey made a deal with Mike: one for you, one for me, so we definitely explore how does it work being a law firm that serves two masters — pro bono and corporate cases,” Korsh told Deadline. “We’ve laid some groundwork in the past that a lot of times those things are at odds with each other, and how is that going to play out over the course of Season 7 is another question we deal with.”

Fans can also expect some tension between Harvey and Louis (Rick Hoffman) next season, as Mike successfully convinced Harvey to step up as managing partner of the firm at the end of the Season 6 finale. But Korsh explained that the source of friction between the two has nothing to do with Harvey’s decision to run the firm.

“I think Louis will be okay with accepting that,” Korsh said. “He just might not be okay with Harvey’s managing partner style or every decision that Harvey makes in the same way that Louis and Harvey were not okay with every decision Jessica (Gina Torres) made.

As for what’s in store for Donna (Sarah Rafferty) in Season 7, Korsh told Entertainment Weekly that the role of Harvey’s secretary “on the show is going to change next year and that’s a result of [The Donna] storyline that started as a stretching of the bounds of where we are currently in technology.”

The air date for Season 7, episode 1 of “Suits” has yet to be announced. But based on previous season premiere dates of the show, the new installment will likely kick off in June or July this year.
