Suits Season 8
Aaron Korsh teases about Donna's character after the first 10 episodes of "Suits" Season 8. USA Network

Donna (Sarah Rafferty) has a surprise in "Suits" Season 8.

In the new season of USA Network's "Suits," Donna is promoted to the position she has always wanted. According to executive producer Aaron Korsh, there is something to look forward to for the character after the 10th episode.

"This year, at least in the first 10 [episodes], Donna is coming into her own as COO. …. Throughout the course of Season 7, she asked for it, she got it, but she still, in her own mind, wasn't sure or hadn't yet really internalized that she deserved it and was up to the challenge," Korsh told TV Line. "Now in Season 8, she's feeling much more comfortable. Right away in [Episode] 801, she has a line where she says, 'COO is where I'm meant to be,' and she feels much more confident and secure in that position. That's a lot of what's going on. You will, hopefully, be… a little bit surprised at Donna's role within the firm by the end of the first 10 [episodes] of Season 8."

Korsh also talked about Katherine Heigl's role in the series. According to him, Heigl's character, Samantha Wheeler, is a "force to be reckoned with."

The EP confessed that when they first hired Heigl, they did not have a character for her. Usually, he writes the character and then considers the best actor that fits for the role, so there was a point when they were wondering how to integrate the characters. Then he decided to introduce Samantha through Robert Zane (Wendell Pierce). The two characters' pre-existing relationship feels organic to the show.

"Whether she's afraid or not, she's going to do it, and I think that's the definition of courage," Heigl said about her character Samantha. "She's not always right, and sometimes her methods are a little shady, and sometimes she's shady. But she's really good at her job."

Meanwhile, Patrick J. Adams and Meghan Markle have been part of the series since its first season. However, both announced their departure from the series in Season 7. The Duchess of Sussex recently admitted that she misses the show.

"I'm a fan of 'Suits' and I said to her that I miss it and she said 'so do I,'" Fiona Moore who met Markle in Dublin told reporters.

"Suits" Season 8 airs on Wednesday at 9 p.m. EDT on USA.
