Kara has to stop new villain Psi from wreaking havoc in National City in next week’s episode of “Supergirl.”

According to the synopsis for Season 3, episode 2 of the CW series, Psi (Yael Grobglas) is a thief who uses her psychic powers to get whatever she wants. Able to immobilize people by tapping into their worst fears, Psi proves to be a formidable opponent for Kara (Melissa Benoist). J’onn (David Harewood) even says in the trailer for the episode that Psi is “more powerful” than any psychic he’s ever encountered.

“Psi’s super cool, and she’s a good match for Supergirl,” executive producer Robert Rovner teased to TVLine last September. “It’ll be interesting to see her going up against Kara.”

Elsewhere in the upcoming episode, James (Mehcad Brooks) and Lena (Katie McGrath) are at an impasse, and Samantha (Odette Annable) starts her new job at L-Corp.

While Samantha’s actual job at L-Corp remains unclear, Annable previously told Entertainment Weekly that Samantha and Kara “will be working together very closely.” The series newcomer also added that Samantha and Kara will eventually connect to one another as they go through very similar experiences.

“They can absolutely relate to each other on [the struggles of what it means to be human but] on very polar opposite playing fields,” Annable said. “They [also] have so much in common — not just because they’re from Krypton and from the same place. … Their storylines are very parallel — one will go one way and one will, unfortunately, go the other.”

Aside from Kara, other characters on the show will also form relationships with Samantha. “Everyone will have a relationship with her,” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg told TV Insider last month. “And that will drive much of the season in terms of how far they’re willing to go to stop Samantha when she becomes Reign. Some will believe she needs to be saved; others will think she needs to be stopped.”

“Supergirl” Season 3, episode 2, titled “Triggers,” airs on Monday, Oct. 16 at 8 p.m. EDT on The CW. Watch the trailer for the episode below:
