Tamagotchis, the egg-shaped it gadgets of the '90s, hold a special place in the hearts of many millennials. Their endless need for attention and entertainment likely will make many people either shudder or say "Aww." Fast forward to 2019 and the design has gotten a bit of a makeover, to say the least. Now, a new Tamagotchi-like gadget has been designed to be your pet during the day and your breathalyzer at night.

Created by MTN GODS, the Yopparatchi, which comes from the Japanese word "Yopparai" meaning "drunk," will alert you if you've had a bit too much to drink. If it detects alcohol, hey, it gets a drink, too.

This Tamagotchi-like device was intentionally created to mimic the original in terms of animations with low frame rates, bright colors, and button presses that are accompanied by dings, hums, and beeps.

Pressing its buttons gives it a drink, but the catch is that your digital pal doesn't like to drink alone. Taking turns with your friends can successfully keep the Yopparatchi happy and tipsy. However, be warned, if it parties too hard you may have to clean up its "pixel puke and nurse it back to sobriety." It's the price you pay for this special friend.

Unfortunately, or maybe, fortunately, depending on your point of view, it will not be mass produced or sold at the moment. However, according to Gizmodo, the creators may create a limited production run if they get enough positive feedback. Either way, I have a feeling we haven't seen the last of these bizarre Tamagotchi iterations.
