A teen in Clinton County, Pennsylvania, was charged Tuesday after she left her newborn son on the back porch of a home.

On Thursday early morning, Sean Logan Geraty, the home owner, stepped out of the house to let his dog out. As he started heading back into the home, his dog started pulling him to the rear porch. He noticed droplets of blood. He then traced it to a pool of blood on a wooden extension. Geraty immediately woke his wife up and the two went outside with a light. They then noticed a towel beside their dog’s blankets. They soon realized that it was a newborn baby that was wrapped in a towel inside a bag. They immediately informed the police.

Following investigation, police detained the newborn’s mother, identified as 18-year-old Cassandra Rochelle Stitzer, for questioning. The woman admitted to abandoning the baby and said she found out about her pregnancy only a month ago. She told the investigators that last Wednesday night, she experienced severe stomach pain. She immediately stepped out of her home and drove her car for sometime before giving birth to the child in the front seat. She then wrapped her son in a towel and walked to a nearby church with an intention to leave the baby there.

However, upon noticing a sign that said the church was close due to coronavirus, she decided to leave the baby on the back porch of the home that was beside the church. Believing that it was the pastor’s home, the woman left the baby there and drove back home.

On Tuesday, she was charged with endangering the welfare of a child. She was released on $25,000 unsecured bail. Meanwhile, police said the newborn baby was healthy and remained in a hospital.
