meredith teen wolf benefactor
"Teen Wolf" Season 4 episode 9 revealed that Meredith Walker is the Benefactor...but how is she even alive? MTV

WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD! Do NOT continue reading unless you want to find out who the Benefactor is.

“Teen Wolf” Season 4 had a major reveal in episode 9: Meredith is the Benefactor. Not many people really considered Meredith as a candidate for the mysterious Benefactor. Fans aren’t entirely sure of her motives since Meredith is a banshee herself, but more importantly, no one is sure of how Meredith is alive. In episode 6, Deputy Parrish told Lydia that Meredith killed herself, and “Teen Wolf” showed Brunski finding Meredith’s body on the floor. So how did Meredith survive death?

Mind Control

Lydia doesn’t know the full extent of her powers as a banshee, so fans can’t eliminate mind control as a banshee power yet. The Sheriff’s department would have had to actually go out and see Meredith’s body to fill out a report, right? They can’t be slacking enough to not even visit the scene of a death. Meredith could have used mind control and made them think that they saw her dead when she was there all along. Also, Brunski’s dying words were, “She was controlling me.”

She Is A Ghost

“Teen Wolf” hasn’t explored ghosts yet. Perhaps Meredith did die, but she somehow escaped "death." She had unfinished business with the deadpool, obviously. It's possible her need to finish what she started was so great that death couldn’t even stop her.

A Kitsune Helped

Scott died in episode 8 with Kira’s help. The hospital declared him officially dead, and it was explained that his heart rate slowed to a pace that humans can’t survive. Scott was only able to survive the kitsune’s powers because he was a werewolf -- something that Meredith is not. However, she is a banshee, and no one knows if there are any physiological differences with banshees.

She Is A Goddess

Could Meredith possibly be something more powerful than all of the creatures on “Teen Wolf” thus far? A goddess trapped in a human body would have a lot of issues (for proof, watch “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” Season 5). Maybe she hates that anyone else could be perceived as more powerful, so she decided to off all of her competition. Making the entire supernatural community fear her is certainly a good way to establish her dominance.

She Is Possessed

One theory is that Meredith actually died but now something else is using her body to kill all of the supernatural creatures in Beacon Hills.

Banshees Are Immortal

Lydia heard Brunski’s tape of her grandmother’s murder, but before that, Lydia really thought her grandmother might still be alive. “Teen Wolf” fans know that banshees can definitely sense death, so shouldn’t Lydia be able to sense it if her grandmother was dead? What if she is still alive? Lydia’s grandmother might have also faked her death somehow.

“Teen Wolf” Season 4 episode 10 will air at a special time on Sunday at 7 p.m. on MTV. How do you think Meredith faked her death? Sound off in the comments!
