Although Tim Allen has publicly spoken about his political views in the past, the actor did not write a lengthy pro-Trump Facebook post condemning Democrats.

Allen’s name became the topic of conversation on Facebook on Monday after thousands of users began sharing a message that was allegedly written by the 67-year-old. The text appeared to invite those who support President Donald Trump to share the message with people from opposing political parties.

“Here are some interesting points to think about prior to 2020, especially to my friends on the fence, like moderate Democrats, Libertarians and Independents and the never Trump Republicans and those thinking of ‘walking away’ from the Democratic party,” the message began.

Other statements in the text claimed that Allen is “grateful” that Hillary Clinton isn’t the U.S. president and that Russia donated to her 2016 presidential campaign. “Russia donated $0.00 to the Trump campaign. Russia donated $145,600,000 to the Clinton Foundation. But Trump was the one investigated!” the post read.

However, in a statement via email, Allen’s manager told Reuters that the circulating post “is not from my client Tim Allen.”

The outlet suggested in a report released Thursday that Allen may have been tied to the pro-Trump rhetoric because a man with the same name as the actor shared the post on Facebook. Reuters also traced the circulation of the post back to June 2019 and revealed it was originally shared by an unknown author on a local news website.

Although Allen has been open with his conservative views and attended President Trump’s inauguration in 2017, he told Entertainment Weekly in 2018 that he bases his political views on how the candidate contributes to the betterment of society.

“Politically I’m kind of an anarchist if you see my stand-up. I’m for responsible government that actually does what we pay them to do,” he explained.

“I’ve worked different jobs and I’ve had a colorful past and I pay a lot in taxes. I wish we got more for our money. Whatever political party is for more responsible use of our money — that’s all I meant.”
