Rapper Tupac Shakur would have celebrated his 46th birthday on Friday if alive. Shakur, who was shot and killed in 1996 at the age of 25, is one of the most well-known and celebrated artists in hip-hop history.

The rapper whose original birth name was Lesane Parish Crooks, was born in 1971 and had several stage-names such as 2Pac, Pac and Makaveli.

"When people say ’Pac is the best rapper of all time, they don’t just mean he's the best rapper," rapper Shock G said in the documentary "Thug Angel."

"They just mean what he had to say was the most potent, most relevant and that he was the better human being," he added.

In his short-lived career, Shakur’s songs topped the Billboard charts. Shakur died in 1996 after being shot in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas.

Here are some of his most famous lyrics and quotes to remember the rap legend on his birthday.

1. "Reality is wrong. Dreams are for real."

2. "All I'm trying to do is survive and make good out of the dirty, nasty, unbelievable lifestyle that they gave me."

3. "It's the game of life. Do I win or do I lose? One day they're gonna shut the game down. I gotta have as much fun and go around the board as many times as I can before it's my turn to leave."

4. "Since we all came from a women, got our name from a women, and our game from a women. I wonder why we take from women, why we rape our women, do we hate our women? I think its time we killed for our women, be real to our women, try to heal our women, cus if we dont we'll have a race of babies that will hate the ladies, who make the babies. And since a man can't make one he has no right to tell a women when and where to create one."

5. "Every time I speak I want the truth to come out. Every time I speak I want a shiver. I don’t want them to be like they know what I’m gonna say because it’s polite. I'm not saying I’m gonna rule the world or I’m gonna change the world, but I guarantee you that I will spark the brain that will change the world."

6. "If you can make it through the night, there's a brighter day."

When will I finally get to rest through this oppression?

Don't settle for less, even the genius asks his questions" (from the track- Me Against the World, Album: "Me Against The World")
