Harry Styles doesn’t start off lying in his bed like the first line of his single “Falling” would suggest. The new music video, which was released Friday morning, shows Styles lounging reflectively on a piano seat and ends with him seemingly drowning underwater.

The “#FALLINGMUSICVIDEO” began trending on Twitter quickly following the video’s release as fans documented their reactions to what many are saying has left them "heartbroken."

In the opener, Styles looks solemnly at the alcoholic drink on the piano beside him before setting it aside and beginning to play. With each note, water begins to fill up in the body of the piano and starts overflowing, spilling into the room.

“And I’m well aware I write too many songs about you,” Styles sings as the water gushes from the piano.

Many of Styles’ fans have said the emotional video made them cry, and some are confused as to whether the beginning showing him drenched in wet clothing alludes to his survival, or if he drowns as the ending suggests.

“And I get the feelin’ that you’ll never need me again,” Styles belts as the water floods the entire room that he is sitting in, above the chandelier and filling his lungs.

Some fans have been quick to point out a tiny detail in the window of the video: a shot of the Eiffel Tower.

While others are noting the “beautiful” aesthetic in the way it was filmed, including the detailed close-up of Styles' hands.

“Falling” is Styles’s fourth single released from his “Fine Line” album, which came out in December 2019. The solo singer has been promoting the music video’s arrival on his Instagram since Monday, sharing clips and teasers for fans.
