Season 5 of “The Vampire Diaries” just ended and we already can’t stop thinking about the drama to come in Season 6. Unfortunately, the wait for new episodes is long since the hit CW series won’t be returning until fall 2014. However we’ve compiled a list of exciting scoop that is bound to hold you over until someone manages to compel the executive producers, writers and cast to dish out more spoilers.

1. Season 6 Synopsis

Thanks to a leaked marketing photo we’ve already got a brief synopsis for Season 6 of “The Vampire Diaries.” According to the marketing information, “Season 6 will be the story of their battle between good and evil within themselves, and their journey back to each other to reclaim their home.”

2. More Paul Wesley … Behind The Camera

Stefan is alive and well thanks to Bonnie and Liv’s spell to free him from the Other Side. And since the youngest Salvatore is back, that means that actor Paul Wesley will have more time to direct another “Vampire Diaries” episode! The “TVD” star confirmed to Buzzfeed’s Jarrett Wieselman that he’ll once again be directing another episode of the hit CW series in Season 6.

3. Alaric Returns

“Vampire Diaries” fans were left with their jaws on the ground when Alaric passed through Bonnie in the Season 5 finale. Viewers will remember that the history teacher and Damon’s BFF was killed off at the end of Season 3 thanks to a spell that Original witch Esther cast on him. Thanks to Bonnie and Liv’s magic, Alaric will get another chance at life. TV Guide confirmed that actor Matt Davis will be reprising his role as a series regular for Season 6.

The only thing is that “TVD” viewers are going to get to see a very different Alaric -- vampire Alaric. He ended his stint in Season 3 as an evil vampire thanks to Esther, but since passing to the Other Side, he managed to return to his old self. But that doesn’t mean his transition to the real world will be easy.

“He’ll struggle with what he’s become and how he’s supposed to live with that,” executive producer Julie Plec revealed to TV Line.

4. Enzo Is Sticking Around

Damon might be dead, but Enzo is sticking around. Julie Plec confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that Michael Malarkey will be joining Season 6 as a series regular. His character, Enzo, was first introduced in Season 5 as Damon’s old vampire friend from his time locked up as an Augustine vampire.

As for what’s in store for Enzo? Plec teased that Damon two BFF’s might not get along very well.

5. Tyler’s Fate

Tyler died and returned to the land of the living all within the span of an hour during the Season 5 finale. However his return came with a twist – it was revealed that he can no longer heal. So, what’s his deal? Plec told TV Line that he’s back to being a human with the werewolf gene.

The good news is that Tyler can avoid going through the whole transformation again, however he has to learn to keep his temper in check or risk losing it all again.

6. Will Bonnie And Damon Return?

It’s the question that fans can’t stop thinking about – Are Bonnie and Damon gone for good? You can breathe a sight of relief because Plec revealed to the Hollywood Reporter that both Kat Graham and Ian Somerhalder are contracted for next year.

But what’s their deal for Season 6? It’ll be the question of what happened to them.

“Did they find peace?” Plec teased. “Are we going to be left with Damon and [Bonnie] flashbacks, hallucinations and memories for the entirety of Season 6? Did they find their way somewhere else, and if so, where? I can tell you that the Other Side no longer exists, so they’re not there. There’s no coming back from that.”

7. Matt’s New Situation

All the supernatural beings might be kicked out of Mystic Falls – but Matt is just settling in! Plec told TV Line that even though Matt loves his friends, he’ll be enjoying a town without any dangerous supernatural happenings. On top of that, TV Line seemed to hint that Matt might be taking on the role of an officer of the law in Mystic Falls.

8. A New Character

A new lady will entering the picture in Season 6! While we don’t have a name for this new character, she’ll be human (and able to live in Mystic Falls) and around the same age as the gang. She’s being pitched as a possible love interest for Matt, Jeremy or Tyler.

9. The Reality of Season 6

Expect some pretty big changes when Season 6 premieres. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the new season will start off with a couple month time jump … and with the gang potentially split up due to the pesky spell on Mystic Falls.

That’s not necessarily a bad thing. Julie Plec explained to the site that it’s a “beautiful and organic reset,” and that “the theme of the season is everybody gets to start over.”

“Our heroes who have splintered off need to find their way back to each other emotionally and geographically as they fight to restore order to their home so they can actually return and not be scattered for good,” the executive producer revealed about next season.
