delena christmas
Elena (Nina Dobrev) might not be getting any love in the Christmas episode of "The Vampire Diaries" Season 6. CW

“The Vampire Diaries” Season 6, episode 10 might not be the Christmas gift that fans want. We previously reported that the holidays might be a dark time for the vampires, and showrunner Julie Plec has revealed that Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena (Nina Dobrev) probably won’t get a Christmas miracle. Last month, Plec seemed a little playful when she hinted about a mistletoe scene.

"There may be some hanging mistletoe in Damon and Elena's future," Plec told E! Online. "Whether or not they kiss underneath it remains to be seen."

But now it seems that Plec doesn’t want Delena shippers to set their hopes too high. “There is mistletoe in the midseason finale, and fans are free to wish for anything they want -- and also prepare for crushing disappointment in the way that we always tend to like to serve it to them,” Plec warned TV Line.

This could mean that Damon and Elena don’t kiss in the Christmas episode -- but writers usually don’t tease something just to tell fans it’s not going to happen. There is still hope for a Delena kiss, but it’s probably not the beginning of Damon and Elena’s new relationship. Damon seems set on letting Elena go and it’ll probably take him a while to decide to change his mind -- if he ever does.

However, the episode will include flashbacks to happier times as Bonnie (Kat Graham) attempts to cheer herself up on Christmas. Fans might catch a glimpse of Delena before Damon and Bonnie go to 1994.

“The Vampire Diaries” Season 6, episode 10, airs Thursday, Dec. 11 at 8 p.m. EST on the CW. Do you think Damon and Elena will kiss, or is the rain kiss the last Delena action we’ll see for a while? Sound off in the comments section below!
