Elena (Nina Dobrev) will continue to pursue Liam (Marco James) in episode 7 of "The Vampire Diaries" ... even though Damon (Ian Somerhalder, not pictured) returned to the land of the living. CW

“The Vampire Diaries” really knows how to twist a knife in the hearts of its viewers. Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena (Nina Dobrev) were finally reunited in episode 6 of the hit CW series after Damon died in the Season 5 finale. It wasn’t the joyous (or even sexy) reunion that Delena shippers were hoping for in Season 6. But could that all change in episode 7?

For those who don’t remember, Elena had a difficult time dealing with Damon’s passing. The college vampire turned to witchy drugs to solve her problems, and when that cat was out of the bag she asked Alaric (Matthew Davis) to use his special “Original” compulsion to erase any good memories of Damon from her mind. The compulsion allowed Elena to move on and meet someone new, Liam (Marco James) – but no one expected Damon to come back from the dead.

Needless to say, Damon was a little upset that Elena didn’t remember their passionate relationship. But after he had a close call with new vampire hunter Tripp (Colin Ferguson), Elena decided to risk her newfound happiness with Liam and ask Alaric to return her memories – the only problem was that Alaric was turned into a human again and lost his compulsion powers.

Episode 7 will find Elena and Damon trying to reconnect and see if the love they shared is powerful enough to break the compulsion on Elena. But it won’t be an easy process – especially since Elena is still seeing Liam. The pair will attend the annual Whitmore Medical Center Fundraiser, where the promo video teases an awkward run-in between Damon and Liam.

Elsewhere at the Whitmore event, Jo (Jodi Lyn O’Keefe), will open up to Alaric about “her own tragic past.” “Vampire Diaries” viewers learned last week that she was a witch. Could her backstory with magic possibly be explored?

But romance won’t be the only thing brewing in episode 7, which is titled “Do You Remember the First Time?” Tripp escaped after the episode 6 accident, which means the Mystic Falls crew is still in some serious danger. Stefan (Paul Wesley), Matt (Zach Roerig) and Enzo (Michael Malarkey) will be tasked with dealing with Tripp. The unlikely trio will have to “resort to extreme measures when Tripp withholds information about his vampire-killing operation.” But could another factor be thrown into the mix? The synopsis teases that Sheriff Forbes (Marguerite MacIntyre) will get “caught in the middle of a dangerous plan,” putting Caroline “in a race against the clock.”

Finally, “Vampire Diaries” fans can look forward to seeing Tyler (Michael Trevino) and Liv (Penelope Mitchell) “grow closer.” But all eyes will be on Damon in episode 7 when he “stumbles upon a startling clue that renews his hope.”

Does the “startling clue” have to deal with his relationship with Elena? Or could Damon potentially be reuniting with Bonnie (Kat Graham)? “Vampire Diaries” viewers will find out when Season 6, episode 7, airs on the CW on Thursday, Nov. 13, at 8 p.m. EST.
