“Saturday Night Live” kicked off the night poking fun at the latest coronavirus pandemic news. The episode was hosted by actor Keegan-Michael Key and featured musical guest Olivia Rodrigo.

Aside from the COVID-19 update, the sketch comedy show also joked about Liz Cheney’s ousting as the House’s No. 3 Republican and made light of the Michael Jordan documentary “The Last Dance.”

Here are some of the notable sketches from the 19th episode of Season 46 of “Saturday Night Live.”

Cold Open

The opening skit for the NBC sketch show mocked the CDC’s new guidelines that have left those who are fully vaccinated confused about when masks need to be worn. Cast member Kate McKinnon played Dr. Anthony Fauci, who attempted to explain where masks need to be worn by having doctors act out different scenarios.

“The CDC announced that people who are vaccinated no longer need to wear masks, both outdoors and indoors, pretty great, right? But a lot of people had questions, such as what does that mean? What the hell are you talking about? Is this a trap?” Fauci says.

However, the various scenes failed to give vaccinated people answers about the mask guidelines and even left Fauci with a few questions.

Weekend Update

The parodied “SNL” news segments touched on several current events, including Cheney’s removal from her top position at the House after challenging former President Donald Trump’s stolen election claims.

Cheney, who was played by McKinnon, appeared to be in disbelief about being turned on by other Republicans.

“I fell down to hell like Lil Nas X, fracked with the devil, and bounced back up onto MSNBC,” McKinnon’s Cheney told cast member Colin Jost.

“Colin, the Republican Party is changing. I don’t know what happened! I don’t know what I did wrong. Look at me: I am everything a conservative woman is supposed to be. Blond, mean.”

However, Cheney appeared hopeful that she would make a political comeback with the support of other unpopular political figures

“The Last Dance” Extended Scene

Key portrayed the famed NBA player in a parodied version of the ESPN documentary and exposed Jordan’s competitive side off of the court. In the skit, Key got into an intense coin toss bet with his head of security, John Michael Wozniak, who was played by Heidi Gardner.

Gardner managed to beat Key in the first round, but the celebration of the victory made the athlete take things personally. By the end of the game, Gardner’s Wozniak lost his pants, glasses, hair and was “in the dog house” with his wife.

Actress Anya Taylor-Joy will host the next episode of “Saturday Night Live” with Lil Nas X as the musical guest.
