Angry villagers lynched a man a day after he killed his wife and dumped her body in a pit latrine. The incident took place in Nyandarua County, Kenya, earlier this week.

The accused, identified as 36-year-old Peter Ng’ang’a, locked his children in their home before beating his wife to death and dragging the body to a nearby field Monday. He then cut her into pieces before stuffing the remains in a bag and dumping it in a pit latrine at a nearby school.

The following day, the children managed to escape from the home and alerted the police. The officers along with the residents of the area followed the blood trail and found the woman’s headless body at the nursery school.

“When we shone the torch inside the pit latrine we could see the hands and intestines but not the head. We dug around the pit and used a ladder to retrieve the body," police said.

The accused, who had escaped from the village post the crime, was fished out by the angry villagers and lynched. A video of the lynching showed the accused telling the mob that another man had helped him carry the body to the school. However, he did not disclose the name of the associate.

The villagers told police that the victim was often abused by her husband. The woman, who frequently fled to her parents’ home, had returned only a month back. They believe the victim was murdered because she recently filed a police complaint against her husband after he threatened to kill her.

"If the police had taken the threat on her life seriously, she would not have been killed,” a villager said.
