  • The show concluded with Jack getting shot
  • Netflix is yet to announce if and when Season 3 is going to be released

"Virgin River" Season 2 ended with a massive cliffhanger, leaving fans worried about Mel and Jack’s future in the series. While things may look bleak for the fan-favorite couple right now, showrunner Sue Tenney is hopeful for them.

Last week, the second season of the Netflix original based on Robyn Carr’s novels by the same name was released. The show concluded with Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) discovering Jack (Martin Henderson) lying on the floor wounded by a gunshot. Fans are eager to find out the answer to the question: Who shot Jack? And will he stay alive?

The cliffhanger has left fans wondering whether Jack will return for “Virgin River” Season 3 and how will this impact his romance with Mel. Speaking with TV Line, Tenney assured that this is not the end yet.

“Ultimately, the way I look at the show is that we’re going to get as many seasons as we get. And when we get to that last season, we want them to be where [book author Robyn Carr] has them,” Tenney told TV Line.

As per the publication, the future might take the characters to different paths and “journeys than in Carr’s novels,” but “their destinations remain the same.”

Carr’s first book in the series was released in the year 2007. Since then, the author has released 21 novels, the latest addition being “Return to Virgin River,” which was released in October.

While there is a long wait ahead before the answers to all our questions are revealed, it is certain that Jack is in good hands. Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Henderson asked fans to not “lose hope.”

"Monroe is an amazing nurse practitioner so he's in good hands. He's off to a good start there. If you want to be shot, you're pretty [lucky] for your love interest to be a nurse so he's off to a good start. But anything can happen on ‘Virgin River,’” Henderson added.

Meanwhile, the list of suspects who could have attempted to kill Jack includes Charmaine, Calvin and his gang, and Brady. However, fans are warned to not rely on Carr’s original series for the answers.

Breckenridge hinted at an unexpected twist when the show returns.

“If there's a season 3, maybe there will be a twist in that,” she told the publication.

"Virgin River" Season 2 is currently streaming on Netflix.
