Who Is The Vissles-MS1 Monitor Stand For?

International Business Times has previously checked out the Vissles-M portable monitor in an earlier review, and one of our biggest concerns with the monitor was that the included cover/stand wasn't very sturdy. We mentioned that if the monitor was to be used regularly, a more permanent stand would be needed. Vissles must have agreed with this idea, as the company has released the Vissles-MS1 monitor stand. This stand is ideal for the Vissles-M monitor, or a variety of other screens.

Super Quick Set-Up

The Vissles-MS1 monitor stand is almost entirely ready to go straight out of the box, but does require some very minor assembly. For example, the clamp needs to be attached to the rest of the stand, but this doesn't even require any tools. It just needs to be snapped into place.

Adjusting the monitor can sometimes require an Allen wrench, but Vissles has included one in the box. When positioning the monitor, the Allen wrench is used to tighten the MS1's hinges to better stay in place. Small adjustments don't really require any tools, but an Allen wrench can sometimes be needed to tighten the screws again after an adjustment has been made. Once the monitor is in your desired position, simply twist on the screws a little to get everything nice and tight and you're good to go.

More Than A Desk Stand

While I have been using my Vissles-MS1 monitor stand as a basic desk stand, the MS1 can offer a number of uses beyond simply sitting on a flat surface. There is an included mounting bracket that the legs of the MS1 can easily slide into. This mounting bracket can be attached to a wall, under a cabinet, or just about anywhere via two different methods. The bracket has a 3M sticky pad on it, allowing the bracket to be stuck to surfaces. For a more permanent solution, there are also holes in the bracket for screws.

Because the MS1 slides into the bracket, that means that even if the bracket does get screwed into a wall, the monitor stand can still easily slide right out and be used as a table stand elsewhere. Seeing as how the MS1 can be repositioned easily, with at most a few turns of an Allen wrench, the stand can go from a desk to the wall and back again with virtually no down time.

More Than A Monitor Stand

The main purpose of the Vissles-MS1 stand is to hold the Vissles-M monitor. However, the monitor stand can support much more than the Vissles-M. The MS1 is a great stand for tablets, especially an iPad. If you want to have a tablet next to your computer for video calls or to use as a second screen, the MS1 stand is perfect. With the MS1 using a ball socket to hold the screen clamp to the rest of the stand, screens can be rotated horizontally or vertically with ease.

The Vissles-MS1 stand uses a clamp system to hold screens in place. Because of this, the clamps will come down gently, but firmly on whatever is put into them. That allows the MS1 to hold onto screens of varying sizes. That said, I wouldn't go much larger than a 15.6-inch screen, like the Vissles-M, as the clamp can only extend so far.

A Few Minor Downsides

The Vissles-MS1 is simple and versatile enough that there aren't any major issues with it. However, there are a couple of small annoyances. The most prominent is that the monitor stand's joints aren't the strongest. The MS1's joints will eventually start to slip, especially after making an adjustment to the screen placement. This is easily fixed with a quick twist of an Allen wrench, but it's best to keep a wrench nearby with how frequently it may be needed.

img

The other issue is taking a screen out of the clamp. The Vissles-MS1's clamp is pretty tight and there isn't much space left after stretching for the width of the Vissles-M monitor. That means taking the screen out of the clamp requires two hands for the clamp system, leaving none for the screen itself, or trying to use the screen to push off the clamp, causing the clamp to slam back on itself. It can be a little awkward at times, but if the screen isn't getting moved around frequently it isn't that big of a concern.

Final Thoughts

The Vissles-MS1 monitor stand is perfect for those who want a more permanent spot for a Vissles-M monitor, or any other similarly sized screen. The MS1 also makes adding a screen to the kitchen, garage or basement a breeze with its mounting bracket. Because the monitor stand slides into the mounting bracket, one screen can be brought to multiple locations with ease.

While the MS1 does tend to require quick tightening adjustments somewhat regularly, the fact that it can hold large phones, tablets, and even smaller-sized monitors makes it versatile enough for anyone looking to add another screen to their set-up.

The Vissles-MS1 is available exclusively on the Vissles website. It is currently priced at $30.
