  • "The Walking Dead" Season 10, episode 16 will air this year
  • The finale wil air as a "special" episode
  • The post-production work will resume after the lockdown

“The Walking Dead” Season 10, episode 16 could not air because of the coronavirus lockdown, but the fans will get to see it later this year. Greg Nicotero, who directed the finale, confirmed that the filming has been completed and the episode will air as a “special” later this year.

The finale episode was supposed to air on April 12, however the producers couldn’t complete the postproduction work to release it on time. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Nicotero explained that after the filming their job is to edit, add sound effects, include music, and finally add the visual effects. The lockdown evidently made it “impossible” for them to complete all this work to release it for the fans on the scheduled date.

The work will resume as soon as the lockdown ends. Nicotero confirmed that the finale episode will not be pushed to the next season and instead it will air as a “special” later this year. The team will have to complete “The Walking Dead” Season 10, episode 16 three weeks before they release it.

Nicotero emphasised that there was no delay in any aspect of the postproduction process. They were on their way to finishing the work on schedule, but reason they couldn’t complete it was because the lockdown made them miss the three weeks window.

While the fans wait for the show to return, there is more zombie content to look forward to this year. According to Deadline, AMC Networks going to finish the postproduction work on the spin-off series “The Walking Dead: World Beyond” on time despite the coronavirus lockdown and the show is set to air on schedule in the fourth quarter this year.

The fans will also be able to read the graphic novel “The Walking Dead: The Alein” soon. The story is about Rick Grimes’ (Andrew Lincoln) brother Jeff, who wakes up to find the zombie apocalypse in Spain and then tries to make his way to America to meet his brother. The hardcover comic will be released on July 29, Screen Rant reported.

As far as “The Walking Dead” Season 10, episode 16 is concerned, the producers may announce a release date after the lockdown ends.
