Police Monday sought three suspects in a Washington shooting that left eight people wounded and one dead. It’s the latest in what has been a violent year for the U.S. capital, with 103 reported homicides so far.

The shooting took place around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday in a largely residential area in the northwestern part of the city. Metropolitan Police Chief Peter Newsham said three men, one armed with a pistol and two with “long guns,” jumped out of a vehicle before running down the street before firing into the crowd of nine people.

Six people suffered non-life threatening wounds from the shooting while two were said to still be in serious condition at nearby hospitals. A woman was declared dead at the scene.

“This type of brazen, daylight activity in a very, very busy block I’m sure is scary for this community,” Newsham said at a press conference Sunday. “I don’t know what people are thinking if they think they can enter a block and lay down that many rounds. They’re putting everyone in this community in jeopardy.”

“It’s absolutely ridiculous that anybody would do that in our community. It’s insane. We can’t have that. Innocent people can get killed.”

The suspects were described as Black males, two of whom were wearing black hoodies while the third was wearing grey hoodie. They were last seen fleeing the area in a dark blue or black car with tinted windows.
