Hungarian actress and socialite Zsa Zsa Gabor died Sunday at the age of 99. Gabor has appeared in over 70 films but was better known for her celebrity lifestyle.

Her husband Frederic von Anhalt said the actress suffered a cardiac arrest and passed away surrounded by her family and friends.

“Everybody was there. She didn’t die alone,” he reportedly said on the verge of tears.

Her friend and former publicist, Edward Lozzi, told USA TODAY that Gabor died Sunday afternoon.

“Zsa Zsa Gabor was one tough cookie. Her beautiful lips and mouth would also be her worst enemy when and if she turned on the verbal machine gun. Most of her problems originated from that beautiful mouth. Zsa Zsa Gabor will always be an American icon and the klieg in the Gabor-Hilton dynasty,” Lozzi said.

Gabor, referred to as the original Kim Kardashian, was one of the first women to be “famous for being famous.” However, she spent her later years plagued with illnesses. She was left heavily dependent on her husband after suffering strokes in 2005 and 2007. Her right leg was amputated above the knee in 2011 following an infection.

Born Sari Gabor in Budapest in 1917, Gabor was crowned Miss Hungary in 1936 but was later disqualified for lying about her age for entering the pageant.

She made her film debut in the musical “Lovely to Look At” (1952). The same year, she played a role in “We’re Not Married!” and “Moulin Rouge."

Gabor had been married nine times, her first marriage at the age of 20 and her last at 70. The former actress is the great-grandmother of Paris Hilton by marriage. She has one daughter Constance Francesca Hilton, born in 1947, from her marriage to Conrad Hilton.

Gabor made several television appearances often taking digs at her own marriages and her social life while calling everyone “dahlink.”

Celebrities, including talk show host Larry King and British TV personality Piers Morgan, took to Twitter to express their condolences. King wrote: “There will only be one Zsa Zsa Gabor. And, I liked her a lot. Rest In Peace, my dear.”
