Hollywood actor Andrew Garfield is taking a break from the silver screen. In an interview with Variety, Garfield said he would be stepping away following the release of FX’s upcoming limited series “Under the Banner of Heaven.”

“I’m going to rest for a little bit,” Garfield told the publication. “I need to recalibrate and reconsider what I want to do next and who I want to be, and just be a bit of a person for a while. Because as you know, that is a washing machine, that awards season.”

Garfield is coming off his second Academy Award nomination for his role in the Netflix film, “Tick, Tick… Boom.”

In an industry that often places a high premium on recent success, Garfield's exit may come as a surprise.

“I need to just be a bit ordinary for a while,” he said.

Garfield had quite a busy schedule over the last year after appearing in “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” as well as “The Eyes of Tammy Faye,” and his lead roles in the Netflix and FX projects.

The 38-year-old seemed to suggest that he was not burned out of being on film sets.

“It’s so fun and you get to hang out with people that you love and admire, and you get to be a part of a conversation that is so privileged,” he said.

“You get to experience all the firsthand, visceral [parts of] being a part of that community and the dynamics.”

Garfield did not disclose when he plans to return to acting.

“Under the Banner of Heaven” will begin airing Thursday on Hulu.
