Olivia Rodrigo’s new hit song “Driver’s License” was released on Jan. 9 and it’s already topping charts, as well as on repeat in many fan’s cars. If she looks or sounds familiar, you might recognize her from a popular Disney+ series.

The 17-year-old is best known for her role in “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series,” which premiered in 2019 on Disney+ and was a hit for all ages. She plays Nina Salazar-Roberts, a role she'll return to in Season 2 later this year.

She’s also the singer of “All I Want,” which she wrote for “HSMTMTS” and even went viral on TikTok in 2020. Previously, she appeared on Disney Channel's "Bizaardvark" and "An American Girl: Grace Stirs Up Success."

Rodrigo’s new single “Driver’s License” has over 18.3 million Spotify streams already, is on millions of TikTok videos and is the talk of social media.

The song is speculated to outline her heartbreak with “HSMTMTS” co-star, Joshua Bassett, with whom Rodrigo had a prior relationship and who is now allegedly dating another Disney star, Sabrina Carpenter.

One line in her song says, “I guess you didn’t mean what you wrote in that song about me.” Many fans think that it’s alluding to Bassett’s “Anyone Else” single that was released in 2020, according to Vulture.

Social media users are extremely invested in this so-called “drama” and can’t stop talking about it.

Taylor Swift has even expressed her love for the song after Rodrigo posted a photo on Instagram showing that her song is right under Taylor Swift’s on the iTunes chart.

“I say that’s my baby and I’m really proud,” Swift commented on the photo. Some Swifties might recognize this compliment because it's what Swift's mom has said to her in the past.

On Monday, just two days after its release, the song hit #1 on the “Top Song Debuts Global” category on Spotify.

This is just one of the songs that’ll be included on her 2021 EP.
