Paul Pelosi, the 82-year-old husband of Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, was arrested by law enforcement officers this weekend on suspicion of driving under the influence.

A public booking report from the Napa County Criminal Justice Network showed that Paul was arrested at 11:44 p.m. PT on Saturday and was charged with one count of driving under the influence. Officials also charged him with one count of driving with a blood alcohol content level of 0.08 or higher.

Paul was booked on two misdemeanor charges and his bail was set for $5,000. The arrest was first reported by TMZ.

Drew Hammill, a spokesman for the House Speaker, refused to comment on the charges. “The Speaker will not be commenting on this private matter which occurred while she was on the East Coast,” Hammill said in a statement to Associated Press.

On Sunday, Nancy Pelosi received an honorary degree at Brown University and delivered a commencement address to the graduating class of 2022.

Paul Pelosi was born in San Francisco, California, on April 15, 1940. Nancy and Paul first met at Georgetown University and got married in 1963. Despite being the House Speaker’s husband, Paul has typically avoided the spotlight.

"I've made a conscious effort to not be involved or give the appearance of being involved in her political career," he told the San Francisco Chronicle in 2004. "People should realize that she's the one."

Paul is an entrepreneur who is known for his real estate and venture capitalist businesses. He founded and owns the Financial Leasing Services, a venture capital investment firm based in San Francisco. He also co-owns a vineyard in Napa Valley with Nancy.

In 2022, Paul drew attention for his lucrative trades, which occurred despite efforts to ban stock trading by members of Congress. His stock disclosures and investments were later copied by investors on TikTok and other platforms.

The couple shares five children together, namely Nancy Corinne, a group sales director at Fairmont hotel; Christine, an author and political strategist; Jacqueline, who coordinates promotions at Gourmet magazine; Paul, a senior advisor at Oroplata Resources Inc.; and Alexandra, a journalist, according to the Business Chronicler.
