Former President Bill Clinton was joined at a 2014 private dinner by British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell, who was arrested and charged for allegedly recruiting underage girls for Jeffrey Epstein.

According to a report by the Daily Beast, which quoted multiple unnamed sources familiar with the incident, Maxwell was invited to an intimate dinner party at the Crossroads Kitchen—a vegan restaurant in Los Angeles—on Feb. 27, 2014. Tech CEO Scott Borgerson, who is now rumored to be Maxwell’s husband, also attended the private party that night.

According to Forbes, a Clinton spokeperson claims there were 20 guests at the dinner and said the former president has not been accused of any wrongdoing.

Multiple sources familiar with the situation said Clinton’s team had argued over whether to extend an invitation to Maxwell after she was cut out of the former president’s social circle in 2011. However, she was reinstated when deputy chief of staff Job Davidson helped organize the party.

“This is an intimate dinner with Clinton in L.A.,” a source with knowledge of the situation said. “Think of all the people he knows in L.A., and Ghislaine gets to attend.”

At the time of the intimate dinner party in Crossroads Kitchen, at least one alleged victim had accused Maxwell of recruiting underage girls for a sex ring at Epstein’s mansion in Palm Beach, Fla. Victims of their trafficking scheme had already filed multiple lawsuits.

According to the report, Clinton staffers were aware that there were claims of Maxwell’s involvement after the Daily Mail had published an interview with survivor Virginia Roberts Giuffre in 2011.

In the article, the victim accused Epstein and Maxwell of trafficking her to British royal family member Prince Andrew when she was only 17. The report also featured a photograph of Prince Andrew gripping Giuffre’s bare waist as Maxwell smiled in the background at her home in London.

Epstein was arrested in July 2019 and charged with sex trafficking and conspiracy to engage in sex trafficking. He was found hanging in a jail cell in lower Manhattan a month later. The incident was ruled a suicide.

In July 2020, authorities arrested Epstein’s longtime associate Maxwell on six felony counts relating to sex trafficking. She was denied bail at her arraignment, where she also pleaded not guilty on the charges. If convicted of all charges, she could spend 35 years in prison.
